Sprint Prepaid Cellular Phones on Offer
Sprint prepaid cellular phones are available on Sprint Nextel's prepaid wireless service, called Boost Mobile. Sprint distributes phones from manufacturers LG, Sanyo, Blackberry and Motorola for its prepaid plans. At the time of writing, Sprint prepaid cellular phones cost from about $59.99 to $249.99.
Sprint Nextel is the third largest telecommunications company in the US (with Verizon currently being the largest) operating using CDMA technology, which is a type of cellular telecommunications technology that is the most popular in North America. Other types of cellular technology include GSM and iDEN, with the latter originally used by Nextel until Sprint acquired the company to form Sprint Nextel.
Consequently, Sprint Nextel's Boost Mobile wireless service uses both iDEN and CDMA technologies. GSM is not compatible with either, so one cannot use a GSM phone on a CDMA or iDEN network.
Going prepaid has a tremendous amount of advantages, including the fact that you don't get any hidden fees or surprise bills in a month (since you pay upfront); there are no binding contracts (so you can easily change networks if you would like and don't pay a set fee every month); you don't have to worry about credit checks; and, with Nextel's push-to-talk technology, your cellphone can also be used as a walkie-talkie.
Sprint Nextel has nationwide coverage and offers three simple prepaid plans at the time of writing:
1)Pay monthly
You pay $50 a month and get unlimited talk, unlimited text, unlimited access to the Internet and unlimited walkie-talkie services.
2)Pay daily
For $1.00 a day you get unlimited text messaging, unlimited nights, weekends and mobile-to-mobile calling, unlimited nationwide walkie-talkie services (costs an extra dollar a day) and your daytime minutes will cost you 10¢ per minute.
3)Pay for every minute
This is Sprint's 'pay-as-you-go' option, which means you simply pay as you use the service. The cost is 10¢ per minute for talking and 10¢ per text (sending and receiving). For an additional dollar a day you get to use the walkie-talkie service as well.
Prepaid plans are usually ideal for students or those who don't intend using their phone heavily for business, but more for socializing or keeping in contact with others. If you like to be on the web and connect with friends using Twitter, Facebook or other sorts of social media, you would obviously need to look at the Pay Monthly option as here Sprint offers unlimited access to the web.
Phones of all types are offered at competitive prices on prepaid plans as well. The Blackberry and Motorola smart phones are the most expensive at $249.99 each, with more media-based phones such as the Motorola Debut i856 range in the price range of $149.99.
Most of the phones available on prepaid plans are priced at $79.99, with the cheapest phone (at the time of writing) being the Motorola i335, priced at $59.99.
This shows that you have a wide range of options if you choose to buy a phone on a prepaid plan. Of course, if you already have a CDMA or iDEN compatible phone, prepaid works even better for you because you can immediately have them switch you to their network by simply calling them, or visiting their website at boostmobile.com. At the same website you will be able to see all the latest Sprint prepaid cellular phones on offer.
